Regular Events

2009 Summer Movie Series CAPA Summer Movie Series    Morton Banner

The best opportunity to hear the organ is by attending the CAPA Summer Movie Series which is the longest continuously running
summer movie series in the country! The organ is played 30 minutes before the featured movie, at intermission, and for a few minutes after the movie ends. For $4.00 you get to hear about 45 minutes of organ music and a good flick all while relaxing in the friendly confines of the beautiful Ohio Theatre. What a deal! In addition, each year one silent film is shown with the Morton Organ supplying the music - a real treat! Click here to see a few photos from a couple movies in 2006.

The primary organist for the Summer Movie Series is current Resident Organist Clark Wilson. Others who fill in for Clark during the summer are local organists Jack Mader and David Fleischer.

While at the theater, be sure to check out the banner in the lobby of the Morton organ (see photo above). Thanks to assistant organist David Fleischer for spearheading the project!

program "A Christmas Carol"

Each year Thanksgiving weekend CAPA hosts a live theater performance of Charles Dickens' classic "A Christmas Carol". During intermission of the performances, Clark Wilson performs holiday tunes on the Mighty Morton organ.

View of theater  Ohio Theatre Tours

Usually during the summer and occasionally during other times of the year, CAPA will host free tours of the Ohio Theatre. Included is a guided tour of the facility, a light show, and a demonstration of the Morton Organ. Check out the CAPA web page for information.

Other Events

The theater is host to many events each year, most public, some private. Click here to see the entire list of CAPA events. Change the venue to Ohio Theatre to see what is going on only at that location. If you are invited to a private event and get to hear the organ consider yourself lucky!

Occasionally the organ will accompany the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in one of their performances. In March 2007 the symphony teamed up with former Ohio Theatre Resident Organist Dennis James for a silent film performance of "Phantom of the Opera". Here are some various images of the event. Then in February 2008 the Symphony played Saint Saens "Organ Symphony". The last half of the third movement offered the listener the rare opportunity to hear the organ played in the classical style. In spite of it's ability to completely fill the theater with sound, the organ blended very well with the symphony.

Radio Broadcasts

N
ationally syndicated program "Pipedreams" aired a program promoting organs in Ohio in reference to the American Theater Organ Society and Organ Historical Society 2009 conventions in Cleveland. Click here for the program. The Mighty Morton leads off the program! Kudos to "Pipedreams" host Michael Barone!

Recordings

Clark Wilson CD If you are unable to attend the Ohio in person, check online for recordings of the organ. The most recent recording is Clark Wilson's CD called Intermission. Several records were also recorded by previous organists and occasionally show up on Ebay.
